Paint gun manufacturers offer electrical and paint spray gun. An electric spray gun is ideal for applications such as bed liners, protective coatings, and general purpose spraying. These spray guns do not require an air compressor and feature a patented nozzle that functions similar to an HVLP style spray gun. It also comes with a 1/2 gallon cup and a pattern adjustment ring to allow precise spraying. Its pneumatic counterparts are suitable for coatings with low volume.

Other models of paint guns include the Prevost spray gun, which has an accurate material transfer rate and a full 360-degree rotation. Prevost's application guns are built with durable aluminum and steel nozzles. Many of them are lightweight and easy to use. They also have robust mechanical parts and can be used with spray painting robots.

Paint guns work by mixing paint and air. These mixtures are produced either externally or internally. Depending on how the air and paint mix, they either have a flow regulator or a pressure regulator. The latter is designed to control how much paint comes out of the nozzle, ensuring an accurate application every time. Many of these devices also come with interchangeable nozzles that let operators choose the correct one for the task at hand. Some models also come with extensions to reach hard-to-reach areas.
